Girls 1st, Boys 5th at Uniontown Invitational

The Allderdice girls captured their second straight invitational and the varsity boys had their best showing of the season at Saturday's Everhart Uniontown Invitational on the Fayette campus of Penn State in Uniontown.
The girls, running without top runner senior Molly Ainsman, squeaked by AAA rival Gateway, 83-87. Freshman Sassi Kerpedjiev finished 12th in 21:04, followed closely by the tight pack of sophomore Lara Nagle (13th, 21:08), senior Erica Pasciullo (15th, 21:23) and Clara Finley (17th, 21:23). Freshman Lili Knezevich rounded out the Dragons' scoring five, running 21:59 for 26th.
This was the first race this season where the boys ran all of their top runners, and the difference it made was clear. The boys' varsity was 5th of 19 teams, tallying a mere 167 points and losing only to Greensburg-Salem, Bethel Park, Franklin Regional, and Baldwin. Junior Tom Jech, running in his first invitational of the season, was 7th in 17:25, and senior Ron Warnock blasted through the 18-minute mark in 17:49 for 13th. Juniors Charley Monroe (18:39) and Alex Wein (19:01) placed 37th and 49th, respectively, and senior Matt Meisel and freshman Jordan Haber crossed the line together in 19:23 to take 64th and 65th place.
The junior varsity races generated standout performances as well. Freshmen Mike Gross (8th, 19:36) and Scott Rudkin (10th, 19:42) both won medals for their performances, and the pack of sophomores Swain Uber and Will Hackney and seniors Greg Herschlag and Dave Reznick finished together in 20:03 for 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd places. Freshman Julia Meisel led the junior varisty girls in 23:44, finishing 13th.
The Dragons will run a City League meet Tuesday at Schenley Oval before preparing for Saturday's Central Catholic Invitational, also at Schenley Oval.
