JV boys take third, Wolfson smashes school record at Central Catholic Invite
By Alison Knezevich
The Central Catholic Invitational is the largest cross country race in western Pennsylvania, and both the boys’ and girls’ team ran strong amidst stiff competition. The boys’
varsity team finished seventh, their best ever showing at Central Catholic. Senior Ian Wolfson earned a trophy for his third place finish, as well as running his
personal best and the fastest time ever run by an Allderdice runner. The two runners who bested Wolfson are both defending state champions in track and field. Wolfson was followed by sophomore Tom Jech in 23rd place and junior Edwin Uber in 43rd place.
Seniors Eric Silverman and Jay Firestone and sophomores Ron Warnock and Charley Monroe completed the varsity team.
The girls finished fifth in the Class A Division, with Molly Ainsman as Allderdice’s top female runner with a 12th place finish. Sophomore Torrie Caruso was right
behind Ainsman in 15th place, and freshman Lara Nagle and senior Tina Karan also finished in the top 50 girls. Junior Erica Pasciullo, sophomore Casey
Rubenstein, and senior Julia Nagle completed the varsity team.
Out of 25 teams, the boys’ junior varsity team finished third. Senior Peter Kerpedjiev earned a ribbon for his 14th place finish, and was followed by sophomore
Alex Wein, senior Sam Ennis, junior Marc Stiller, and junior Matthew Meisel. Seniors Johanna Lenkner and Adanna Scott earned ribbons in the girls’ junior varsity
race for their 16th and 17th place finishes, respectively. Scott was followed by senior Emily Dziubek, sophomore Noor Dughri, and freshman Ellie Klionsky.
The Central Catholic Invitational also included a Boys’ Freshman division, in which Allderdice earned a seventh place finish by Jake Cox, Will Hackney,
Alec Stone, Swain Uber, and Jon Gross.
On Friday October 12 the team heads to northern Virginia to participate in the Glory Days Grill Invitational, which features top teams in the D.C. area. The
City League Championships follow the weekend after Glory Days, on October 20.
